Metop-SG A1 mission
Set to fly in 2025, The MetOP-SG A1 (Second Generation) satellite program is a collaboration between EUMETSAT and ESA to advance meteorological and environmental monitoring from polar orbit. The launch campaign for MetOP-SG A1 is designed to ensure the successful deployment and operation of these next-generation weather satellites that will enhance weather forecasting, climate monitoring, and environmental data collection.
Key elements of the campaign include:
- Satellite Shipment: Careful packaging and secure transport of the MetOP-SG satellite from the manufacturing facility to the launch site, ensuring the satellite remains safe and fully functional during transit.
- Preparation and Testing: Rigorous pre-launch testing of satellite instruments and systems at the launch site to verify performance in orbit.
- Launch Vehicle Integration: Coordination with the launch service provider Arianespace and CNES for integration of the satellite with the launch vehicle. The launcher will be an Ariane 6
- Launch Operations: Detailed scheduling of launch procedures, including countdown, fueling, and final system checks.
- Post-Launch Commissioning: In-orbit checkout and calibration of satellite instruments to confirm operational readiness.
This campaign aims to ensure continuity and enhancement of Europe’s polar-orbiting meteorological satellite capabilities through the successful launch of METOP-SG, supporting improved global weather forecasting and climate research.
